Transylvania Film Festival Announces Winter Edition With Focus on Documentary Voices

Culture

CLUJ-NAPOCA Organisers of the Transylvania Film Festival unveiled a winter edition centred on documentary storytelling from Central and Eastern Europe, with twelve feature-length premieres scheduled across five days.

Festival director Lucia Marin said the programme prioritises first-time filmmakers examining migration, rural depopulation, and environmental change in the Carpathian region. Three Romanian productions will compete for a 25,000-euro development grant backed by regional cultural funds.

Industry panels will focus on co-production treaties between Romania, Hungary, and Poland, reflecting increased collaboration since revised MEDIA funding rules took effect. Streaming platforms confirmed scouting teams will attend closing weekend screenings.

Local hospitality businesses expect a noticeable bump in bookings during what is traditionally a slower tourism month. Student volunteers from Babeș-Bolyai University will staff subtitle booths offering English and French translations for select events.
